Course History

It was only a few decades ago that the lush land of Sultan’s Run was home to Supreme Sultan, a horse of history. A legend in his own right. It was over the rolling hills and valleys of picturesque beauty that Supreme Sultan sired a record number of World Champion American Saddlebred horses. No other place on Earth can lay claim to this record.

This same ground now recalls the heritage of Supreme Sultan. Each hole memorializes this stallion and his offspring with engraved stones marking each unique and challenging tee box. Holes one through seventeen are named for one of Sultan’s World Champion foals. The eighteenth hole, however, is named for Supreme Sultan himself. Named “the most dramatic signature hole in Indiana” by VisitIndiana, there is nothing more fitting to pay homage to a legendary Champion. From the very beginning, this land was destined for greatness, but few would have predicted the creation of a world-class golf course that entices champions.

In 1992, Sultan’s Run began operations as a golf course. Just four years later, in 1996, it underwent an extensive remodeling project. This remodel took the golf course to the pinnacle of public golf. Designer Tim Liddy, a disciple of world-renowned architect Pete Dye, took what the land already offered and enhanced it. Tim claims it is the finest piece of property he’s ever had the opportunity to work on.

All 18 holes at Sultan’s Run have been beautified in some shape or form. From entirely new bunkering and reconstructed greens to the complete rework of several holes, Sultan’s Run became a world-class golf facility that golfers talk about long after their round is done.

Since 2009, the owners have invested in upgrading and enhancing the golf course, clubhouse, banquet center, lodging offerings, and all other amenities. In 2022, Sultan’s Run rebranded itself, changing the name from “Sultan’s Run Golf Club” to “Sultan’s Run. This change embodies all of the new amenities that are now offered.

In 2024, the renovation and expansion of the clubhouse were completed. The clubhouse was almost doubled in size, allowing Sultan’s Run to better serve its guests. An expanded pro shop allows for a wider array of high-quality merchandise and a chance to interact more with the guests. The expanded and renovated kitchen and 19th Hole Dining Room have allowed our Chef and staff to continue to provide delicious, fresh meals to golfers and the community. A larger lower-level banquet center allows for larger celebrations. Whether it’s a fundraising event, wedding, holiday celebration, retirement party, etc., the state-of-the-art venue is an elevated place to host your next event- all while overlooking the stunning 18th Hole green and waterfall.

For years, Sultan’s Run has been a perennial award winner. Notably, in 2024, it was named the #1 Public Golf Course in Indiana and the #4 Public Golf Course in the United States by NBC Universal GolfPass Members. In 2025, Sultan’s Run received the honor of being added to BoardRoom Magazine’s Distinguished Golf Destinations. Sultan’s Run’s mission is to “make our guests feel special”. Because of the dedication to providing premium service, Sultan’s Run has received this distinctions and had the privilege of hosting the 2023 Senior LPGA Championship.

Sultan’s Run has been the home of champions for decades. Supreme Sultan began a tradition of winning on these grounds. That is how things will continue.
